Your Skin Would Like A Word

Late-summer skin has the strained composure of a woman hosting people she did not invite. It has endured sun, sweat, air-conditioning, travel, heavy sunscreen, incomplete cleansing, and at least one product purchased because a beautiful stranger called it “holy grail.” By August, even a normally agreeable complexion may begin issuing demands.

The common response is escalation. A stronger acid, a rougher scrub, a mask that promises to remove impurities and appears prepared to remove several layers of personality with them. But irritation is not a moral failure, and the skin does not improve merely because one has decided to become stricter.

Keep the unglamorous essentials: evening cleansing, moisturizer, and broad-spectrum sunscreen each morning. If one gentle cleanse does not remove makeup, sunscreen, and the city, use a first cleanser followed by a mild water-based formula. The face should feel clean, not newly zoned.

Then consider what can be paused. Retinoids, exfoliating acids, scrubs, strong vitamin C formulas, and treatment products may all be useful, but a shelf full of useful things can still create a useless routine. When products sting, redness lingers, or the skin feels simultaneously tight and shiny, simplicity becomes diagnostic. Do not stop prescribed skincare without consulting the clinician who prescribed it, and see a dermatologist for persistent, painful, or concerning symptoms.

Hydration is less a heroic ingredient than an arrangement. Apply a hydrating layer if your skin enjoys one, follow with moisturizer, and give the body the same courtesy after showering. Shoulders, chest, arms, and legs have also participated in summer, although they receive considerably less funding.

The Peace Offering

- Gentle cleanser

- Barrier-supporting moisturizer

- Hydrocolloid patches for individual blemishes

- An abundance of silk pillowcases

Fresh pillowcases are not a cure for acne, but they are pleasant, and pleasure has been unfairly excluded from many skincare conversations.

A professional facial is useful when the bathroom shelf has ceased providing answers. Bring an honest account of prescriptions, products, recent treatments, travel, and sun exposure. The purpose is not to punish the skin for having texture. It is to understand what it needs now.

Advanced services—including peels, permanent makeup, and fibroblast treatments—require careful timing and exact preparation. Follow your provider’s instructions, especially around active skincare, other services, travel, and sun. One should never approach a serious treatment with the improvisational energy of trying on lipstick.

Fall will bring its own products, promises, and minor emergencies. There is no reason to meet it with an already exhausted face. Keep what is working. Remove what is merely loud. Book expertise when you need it. Your skin has not betrayed you; it is simply requesting better management.

Book a Clear Skin Therapy facial at GBY Los Angeles and Kayla will design a thoughtful personalized facial for your skin’s unique needs.
