The Slow Season: A Quiet Luxury Beauty Edit for November

Quiet luxury usually gets talked about as a fashion trend: logo-free cashmere, unbranded bags, a lot of beige. In beauty, it means something more practical. It's a routine with fewer steps and better products, and a face that looks taken care of without looking made up.

November is a good time to switch over. Holiday events haven't started, the days are shorter, and most of us are home more. It's the right moment to cut your routine down to what you actually use, and to book the appointments that do the heavy lifting before December fills up.

The Face: Rested, Not Done

The goal is healthy-looking skin and makeup you can barely see.

Start with a good moisturizer. Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream is the splurge; La Roche-Posay Toleriane Double Repair is the affordable option and does the job well. Warm a small amount between your palms and press it into your skin instead of rubbing.

After that, keep it minimal: a sheer skin tint only where you want coverage, a cream blush in a muted rose or terracotta on the upper cheeks, and a clear brow gel. Skip contour and anything heavy.

The Lip: Muted, Lived-In

Stick to shades close to your natural lip color, like rosewood, dusty berry, or soft brick. Clinique Black Honey is the classic here. It's a sheer, buildable tint that works on almost everyone and doesn't read as lipstick. We also love the classic holy grail Benetint by Benefit.

If you want that look without reapplying, lip blushing is a semi-permanent cosmetic tattoo that adds a soft wash of color to the lips. The result looks like a naturally flushed lip, with or without balm on top.

The Eyes and Brows: Already Handled

A lot of this look comes from appointments, not products. A lash lift and tint curls and darkens your natural lashes for several weeks. A brow lamination sets brow hairs so they look brushed up and full for several weeks too. With both, you can skip mascara and brow products most mornings.

If you do wear mascara this season, one coat of the Ilia Limitless Lash is plenty.

At Home: Small Habits Worth Keeping

A slower routine doesn't mean doing nothing. It means doing a few things properly.

  • Cleansing balm at night. Massage it in for a full minute, then remove it with a warm washcloth. It takes off sunscreen and makeup thoroughly and is the closest thing to a facial most of us do at home.

  • Hand balm by the bed. Aesop Resurrection Aromatique Hand Balm is worth keeping on the nightstand. Hands dry out fast once the weather cools.

  • A silk pillowcase. A Slip silk pillowcase means less friction on your hair, your skin, and a fresh lash lift.

  • A facial tool. We love this heated red light gua sha bedside in the cooler months.

The Scent: Close to the Skin

For fall, pick something that stays close to you instead of filling the room: woody, musky, a little smoky. Le Labo Santal 33 is popular for good reason. Boy Smells Vanilla Era is softer and warmer, and smells delicious on everyone. At home, a Diptyque Baies or Feu de Bois candle is worth the price.

Book Before December

The easiest way to keep a routine short is to let appointments handle the parts that take the most time. A lash lift, brow lamination, facial, or lip blush in November means less to do every morning and a face that's ready for holiday plans. Lip blushing needs a few weeks to heal, so book that one first.
